Wherever she appears, she will be the first woman in office. Not only in Berlin, where she presented her credentials to Federal President Frank Walter Steinmeier at the end of November, Shino Mitsuko is the first Japanese ambassador, she is even the first female head of mission in the entire European Union.

Before she was transferred to Germany, she was an expert on multilateral tasks, most recently as Deputy Ambassador to the UN Mission of Japan, which focused on the issues of international community peace and development.

The ambassador's predecessor, Hidenao Yanagi, who is retiring after the post in Germany, was a guest on the program “diplo.international” in 2024, which asks excellencies about their life, country, the community in Germany and bilateral relations. Shino Mitsuko will also be invited to the talk show in 2025.
