On the occasion of the 150th birthday of the famous Croatian writer Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić, a literary and informative evening entitled “In Search of Ivana" took place at the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. The event was hosted by Hrvatski glas Berlin in cooperation with the Croatian Teaching Institute Berlin, the Croatian Cultural Association Vladimir Fran Mažuranić - Berlin (HKD V.F. Mažuranić) and the Croatian Cultural, Art and Sports Community Berlin.

The literary evening was moderated by Sonja Breljak, editor of Hrvatski glas Berlin. The program included the biography of the famous Croatian writer, the importance of the Mažuranić family, in particular the character of the poet and the ban Ivan Mažuranić, the grandfather of Ivana, as well as the character and work Vladimir Fran Mažuranić, the son of Ivan's uncle, who lived, worked and died in Berlin (HKD V.F. Mažuranić-Berlin was named after him and was named after him as early as 1980 founded) discussed. The students of the Croatian supplementary lessons in Berlin, the teacher of the Croatian course, Prof. Tamara Janković and the president of HKD V.F. Mažuranić, Stjepan Škorić, also took part in the event.

During the event, which was rounded off at the beginning and at the end by the performance of original songs by members of the Croatian Cultural, Art and Sports Association Berlin, poems, verses and stories by this famous Croatian writer, who is also one of the best authors of children's books worldwide, were presented. The students of the Croatian supplementary lessons were all the greater when, after the ceremonial part of the program, they received the book “Priče iz davnina” by Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić as a gift, which is considered one of the most frequently translated works of Croatian literature and was made available by the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia on this occasion.

Ambassador Bakota was extremely pleased with this event due to the great interest in the literary evening on the one hand and the fact that such an event was held in honor of one of the most famous female Croatian writers in Berlin on the other.

After the recent presentation on Marija Jurić Zagorka, which also took place at the embassy, this event was a kind of continuation of literary meetings, which particularly satisfied the organizers due to the great interest of the curious audience.
